AAG Module demonstrates design scalability for data center deployment

  • The 72kW/1.4 MWh AAG Module was operated in presence of a delegation of the Net Zero innovation Hub, demonstrating the functionality of all sub-systems
  • This is a major step in the validation process towards the full 500kW/10MWh First-Of-A-Kind (FOAK) AAG, which assembly is already underway.

MADISON, Wisconsin (October 12, 2026) - Phinergy (TASE: PNRG), a publicly traded clean energy technology company providing zero-emission, long-duration backup power for data centers and critical infrastructure, and the Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers (NZIH) unveiled the scaled-up 72kW/1.4MWh Aluminum-Air Generator (AAG) Module on October 9, 2026, at a partner’s facility near Madison, Wisconsin. The testing was carried out as part of the Hub’s structured, collaborative approach to validating innovative technologies that enable large-scale deployment in the data center industry. Technical experts from Microsoft, Danfoss, Schneider Electric and Vertiv attended the testing and agreed on the next steps of the validation and scale-up program.

Phinergy and the NZIH, a global consortium led by APL Data Centers, Danfoss, Data4, Engie, Google, Microsoft, Schneider Electric and Vertiv, announced the strategic partnership in October 2025 to demonstrate the AAG's suitability for integration into large-scale data center infrastructure, paving the way for global commercial deployment.

The AAG delivers a unique combination of distributed, zero-emission and on-demand electricity generation, making it an ideal candidate for enhancing both grid resilience and backup reliability.  As a backup solution, it helps data center operators address key social acceptability concerns, including onsite emissions and noise, while simplifying critical processes such as permitting, fuel management and routine maintenance.

Beyond backup power, the system can unlock constrained grid capacity, accelerate speed-to-power and support more flexible data center interconnection by temporarily reducing reliance on the grid during constrained peak hours while keeping onsite operations running.

Leadership Perspective

"Reaching AAG Module stage is a defining achievement in the AAG's commercialization roadmap," said Emmanuel Levy, Chief Executive Officer, Phinergy. "The AAG Module design has now demonstrated, through a formal validation process endorsed by hyperscalers and leading data center operators, that it meets the technical standards required for data center operation, and we move forward with confidence toward full AAG system validation and deployment."

About the Validation Program

The NZIH accelerates the transition of data centers toward net-zero operations by addressing challenges that no single company can solve alone.

This test forms part of the Hub’s structured, collaborative process to scale innovation. In the Hub, data center industry leaders jointly define requirements for new technologies to be deployed at scale in data centers. Following a global Request for Information (RFI) for low carbon back-up solutions, AAG was selected as a pathway to substitute diesel back-up generators. Phinergy’s AAG was selected from more than 70 submissions for MW-scale validation.

Supported by global hyperscalers, the collaboration aims to validate and fast-track the deployment of aluminum-air clean energy tailored to the unique needs of cloud and AI-driven data centers. Hub members allocate dedicated teams and resources to the project, ensuring that testing reflects current and future data center requirements and maximizes product-market fit and deployment readiness. The 72kW/1.4MWh AAG Module represents the scaled-up building block of the full 500kW/10MWh First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) system, which is currently under assembly.

Industry Impact

"This is an important milestone of the validation and scale-up program the Hub is conducting with its members. It confirms aluminum-air as a promising clean backup power technology and demonstrates how the Hub’s collaborative approach accelerates the adoption of innovative solutions across the data center industry," said Alberto Ravagni, Chief Executive Officer, Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers.

Together, Phinergy's technology and the Hub's global reach and industry leadership advance a scalable, sustainable and resilient energy pathway for data centers worldwide.

About Phinergy

Phinergy (TASE: PNRG) is a publicly traded clean energy technology company delivering zero-emission, on-site reserve power for data centers and critical infrastructure. Its proprietary aluminum-air technology generates electricity using aluminum as a fully recyclable alternative fuel, enabling multi-day on-demand power without noise and emissions and helping balance increasingly unstable grids. Designed as a clean alternative to diesel generators, Phinergy's Aluminum-Air Generator (AAG) combines high safety, a compact footprint and a low total cost of ownership while leveraging existing global aluminum supply chains. Selected as a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer and chosen by hyperscalers in the frame of the Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers, Phinergy is advancing U.S. commercial and industrial rollout. With growing U.S. operations, Phinergy is helping the world's most demanding industries move beyond diesel without compromise. Learn more at phinergy.com.
